Centerville Students Compete in Math Olympiad

Twenty-one students from Centerville Elementary School were among 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. The students participated in a series of five monthly contests of five problems each from November to March under the supervision of Mrs. Kelly Sutton.

The students responded well and all will be recognized with certificates for their participation. Eight of the students will be awarded embroidered felt patches for scoring in the top 50 percent of all participants worldwide. These students are: Ryan Brock, Jo Jahn, Taylor Campbell, Natasha Hall, Amy Hubbard, Jacob Oster, Rachael Zugg, and Stephanie Pettry. Additionally, Ryan Brock scored the highest score at Centerville and will be awarded a trophy.

The Math Olympiad serves over 4,500 teams and 100,000 students nationally and about 50,000 students in more than 30 other countries. This program has provided challenging, thought-provoking problems that stretch the abilities of students in grades 4 to 8, strengthening their foundation for both assessment tests and more advanced studies. These children have responded to the challenge with eagerness and enthusiasm.
